Bio

Emma has worked as a reporter and editor at the Columbia Daily Tribune and the Columbia Missourian, and as a contributing writer for Missouri Life and Vox magazines. Most recently, she worked as an editorial associate at the Public Religion Research Institute and a legal reporter for Bloomberg Tax. Before becoming a journalist, she taught at several public high schools in New York City, including Pathway to Graduation’s Youthbuild site. An NYC Teaching Fellows alumna, Emma received a B.A. from Knox College, an M.S. in education from St. John’s University and an M.A. in journalism from the University of Missouri.

Education in North Dakota and Minnesota

Emma covers education, both K-12 and higher ed. She is dispatched to various meetings associated with education — such as school board meetings, task force meetings, higher education meetings, etc. — to begin learning about the issues facing the academic system as well as the people involved in making decisions. Emma attends other, less-formal school functions to begin connecting with parents and students affected by the decisions being made.
