The mission of Capitol News Illinois is to provide credible and unbiased coverage of Illinois state government. We’re an 8-month-old news service operated by the Illinois Press Foundation that directly addresses the shrinking press corps at the Statehouse. It was born out of discussions that began a few years ago among Illinois Press Foundation Board members about how to address the shortage of state government reporting available to Illinois newspapers. Capitol News Illinois provides year-round, daily coverage of the Legislature, including committee hearings; state agencies and issues; state office holders; and the Illinois Supreme Court and legal matters. Its content is distributed free to nearly 450 daily and non-daily newspapers statewide.

Beat: Videographer to cover state legislature and pressing state issues
Position: Just as there are few print reporters regularly at the Capitol, there are even fewer instances of video reporting. Editors at newspapers to which we distribute content ask frequently for more video content. Their readers want it; their companies demand it. This reporter has strong videography skills and produces daily news reports to post online and distribute to newspapers. This video reporter primarily works from our office at the Capitol, but also travels to other parts of the state on occasion.
