We are a legacy news organization with a well-known name and brand in Fort Worth, dating back to our founding in the early 1900s in a city that proudly says it is "Where the West begins." Our goal is to be first and best with breaking news in Fort Worth and Tarrant County and for non-breaking news reporters to be heavily driven by enterprise and accountability reporting, rather than turn-of-the-screw process reporting.

The Arizona Republic

The Arizona Republic is the largest news outlet in the Southwest, primarily covering Arizona and, more specifically, the sprawling Metro Phoenix area (pop. 4.8 million). We lead the USA Today Network's coverage of the western US and are the flagship local newsroom of Gannett Co., Inc.'s 109 sites. The Republic's mission has been the same for 129 years: Connect and educate readers by providing fair and accurate coverage that reflects our community.

Zachary Podmore

Zak is a journalist and film producer who has covered rural Utah politics, public lands and conservation issues for Outside Online, Sierra, Four Corners Free Press, Canoe & Kayak and the Huffington Post. In early 2019, he revived a local newspaper in southeast Utah, the Canyon Echo, which he edits. His writing has received awards from the Society of Professional Journalists’ Colorado chapter and Folio magazine. Zak has worked as a river ranger in Bears Ears National Monument in Utah. He has an M.F.A. in environmental nonfiction writing, and has written a book, “Confluence: Navigating the Personal and Political On Rivers of the New West.” Zak has lived in Utah’s San Juan County since 2015.

Obed Manuel

Until recently, Obed he was an associate editor at Central Track in Dallas, where he was focused on city news/politics and social change movements. He previously worked as managing editor of Latina Lista, where he launched a weekly podcast and wrote on immigration and technology. A graduate of the Mayborn School of Journalism at University of North Texas, Manuel was a staff writer for the North Texas Daily and a two-time intern at the Dallas Observer. In 2015, Manuel assisted former Dallas Observer editor Joe Tone with research for “Bones,” a book about money laundering through the quarter horse racing industry. A native of the northern Mexican city of Monterrey, Manuel reports on the growing population of second-generation Hispanic immigrants and the issues they face.

Katherine Lewin

Katherine began her reporting career at Miami Today News and has worked as a freelance multimedia producer for Al Jazeera. In 2018, she received a grant from the Pulitzer Center for Crisis Reporting to cover Cuba’s housing crisis. Katherine has won several awards from the Society of Professional Journalists for both her reporting and photo essays. She earned a B.A. in journalism from Flagler College, where she worked at The Gargoyle student newspaper producing award-winning coverage of refugees and civil rights in Northeast Florida.

KERA / The Texas Newsroom

NPR and Texas public radio stations collaborated to form the Texas News Hub. It’s the first step in a systemwide collaborative project to create a nationwide virtual public radio newsroom of 1,000-plus journalists. The collaboration includes two daily, hour-long statewide programs (Texas Standard and Think) and will soon include six daily statewide newscasts, and a statewide digital news desk. The Hub is working to hire and train freelance and small station reporters to provide news service to underserved communities in the state’s news deserts.

The Victoria Advocate

Established in 1846 – the same year the Republic of Texas joined the Union – the Victoria Advocate has a rich tradition of local ownership and stewardship of its community. It was named the Newspaper of the Year in 2014 by the Local Media Association.  

The Dallas Morning News

This beat focuses on coverage of southern Dallas, with a special emphasis on building trust with the African-American community and reflecting community life, diverse voices and neighborhood milestones and events on our website, in our social channels and in our pages. We envision that the most urgent issues to cover here include income inequality, housing and jobs. The reporter would work closely with and be mentored by our reporters covering Dallas city hall and Dallas County, as well as our business reporters.

Albuquerque Journal
