September 15, 2025 — Report for America is a national nonprofit service program for journalism that partners with newsrooms to help cover under-reported topics and under-covered communities. We find talented journalists for newsrooms, pay a portion of their salary for a commitment of two years with an option to renew for a third year, and offer training support. We are now accepting applications from newsrooms to host a corps member starting in July 2026. If you have applied previously, you will have the opportunity to update a previous application instead of starting a new one. If you are not accepted this round, we will consider you for the next cycle.

Important Criteria in the Application Review Process:

SUPPORT We look for newsrooms where corps members will receive good editing and mentoring, so they can do their best work. Reporters must be paid a living wage for the area in which they’ll be working.

 

A COMMITMENT TO INCLUSION Report for America offers a diverse pool of candidates, and strives to ensure that the newsrooms we place them in are supportive environments for journalists of all backgrounds. It is important to us that host newsroom candidates demonstrate a strong commitment to building equitable and inclusive workplaces where our corps members can thrive.

 

A COMMITMENT TO FUNDRAISING We believe local philanthropy is key to strong local newsrooms and want to work with partners that believe this, too. To that end, we require that host newsrooms try to raise money from local funders to pay for part of their corps member’s salary. Our Local News Sustainability team is ready to help every step of the way.

Deadline to Apply:

Host newsroom candidates should plan to submit their application on or before the deadline of October 20, 2025. This application is for prospective newsrooms applying for new Report for America corps member(s), and current host newsrooms applying for one or more additional corps members.

• Please fill out only one application, even if you’re requesting multiple corps members.
• Do not use this application to continue with your current corps member; we will send separate paperwork for that.
