Mission Local is a non-profit newsroom rooted in our mission: ground-up reporting that is free for all and produced by reporters and editors who reflect the city’s diversity. Our street reporting model often leads to investigative pieces impacting everyone in the city.

Beat: Neighborhood reporter - covering one of San Francisco's neighborhoods.

Position:

The neighborhood reporter will be covering SoMa and Mission Bay - both of which are in District 6. The South of Market neighborhood was once the heart of the tech boom, but it is struggling post pandemic with a high vacancy rate and less street life. Mission Bay has become a bulwark for UCSF and has grown tremendously over the last decade thanks to biotech. So two different but contiguous neighborhoods that will continue to define SF's future.

Salary and Benefits: $65,000 to $80,000 depending on experience. If this is someone's first full-time reporting job, our current starting salary is $65K. If someone has experience, it goes up from there depending on the number of years of experience.

Health Insurance, Kaiser Bronze plan paid in full by ML. We also offer a Platinum and Silver plan with Kaiser, but the employee pays the difference between Bronze and the higher plans. Dental and Vision insurance with ML paying 75 percent of the premium and the employee 25 percent. Three weeks vacation plus on week off between Christmas and New Years.

Moving Stipend: Can be negotiated.
