The Yale Expositor

The Yale Expositor is a weekly newspaper founded in Yale, Michigan 135 years ago to provide local independent reporting in a rural community that is significantly isolated geographically and culturally from Port Huron, the county seat of St. Clair. The priority of the Yale Expositor is to ensure that the local farming community is informed on how policies at the state and federal level are affecting them, particularly in relation to environmental, zoning and public policy changes.

Beat: Rural community and governance in Yale MI

Position:

The rural community and governance reporter focuses on the activities of local governments (boards, zoning entities, etc.) that haven’t had accountability measures in place by the media in a while. The reporter will cover local events and activities and provide transparency on local government actions impacting community well-being.

Salary:
$45,000-$50,000 for two to four years of experience.
$50,000-$55,000 with more than eight years of experience.

Benefits:
Provide a $3,000 health insurance stipend. Ten days of paid time off (PTO) accrued per year, 12 paid holidays, workers compensation, unemployment insurance, social security contributions, mileage reimbursement and professional development support (on a case-by-case basis and subject to budget considerations).

Moving Stipend: A moving stipend of $1,500 is available.
