Before joining The Journal, Pearce interned with NonDoc Media, covering everything from Tribal Council elections to housing legislation. She also interned with Oklahoma Watch, where she reported on the sunset of a statewide school counseling program. Pearce is a recent graduate of Oklahoma State University, where she earned bachelor’s degrees in journalism and political science. When she’s not in the office, Pearce enjoys reading, cooking and travelling.

Beat: Civics in Kansas

The 2026 election cycle is an especially consequential one for Kansas, with voters weighing in on a governor’s race, a U.S. Senate race and whether Kansas Supreme Court Justices will be elected or appointed by the governor. All amid changing voting laws. Using text reporting, as well as multimedia and engagement techniques, the civics reporter will make elections, voting and civic participation understandable and accessible for more Kansans, especially younger voters.
