North Country Public Radio

North Country Public Radio encompasses 34 transmitters and translators that serve a large geographic area—northern New York, western Vermont, southern Ontario and Quebec. NCPR is one of the few organizations that connects and serves the entire region, home to remote mountain hamlets, sparsely populated farming communities, Akwesasne Mohawk towns and tourist meccas. This award-winning news organization seeks to tell the stories and improve the lives of people who are often overlooked by other news outlets.

PublicSource

PublicSource is a nonprofit online news organization serving the Pittsburgh region. Its mission is to inspire critical thinking and bold ideas through local journalism rooted in facts, excellence, diverse voices and the pursuit of transparency. PublicSource produces in-depth and investigative journalism, public-service reporting, a podcast, powerful first-person storytelling and more, directly respond to the information needs of people in southwestern Pennsylvania.

San Antonio Express-News

The San Antonio Express-News is a regional metro daily and news site with an intense focus on covering the community and its institutions. The Express-News is the third largest daily paper in Texas and has deep roots in its home turf; it's been covering South Texas since 1865. San Antonio is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and this news organization's mission is to document the current chapter of San Antonio’s unfolding history as accurately and comprehensively as it can.

The Texas Tribune

The Texas Tribune is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, digital-first news organization that informs and engages with Texans on public policy, politics, government and statewide issues. This news organization's site provides vital information and news to millions of Texans for free, and its journalism is distributed through more than 60 statewide media partners to local outlets. Partnerships with platforms including ProPublica, Apple News, and SmartNews put its content before a nationwide audience.

Tioga Tribune

The Journal has been published for 117 years, and its sister publication, the Tioga Tribune, has been around for 70 years.The news site and the two weekly papers cover general news, serving four small towns in an area where agriculture and oil exploration are the primary industries. There is no other news organization serving these areas on a daily basis.

The Columbus Dispatch

The Columbus Dispatch has been serving central Ohio and beyond since 1871 with news and information about central Ohio, the state and the nation. As a capital city newspaper, news about how state government affects Ohioans is a focal point. The Dispatch shares its reporting with news organizations across the state.

Kansas City PBS

Kansas City PBS has a long tradition of public service that has laid the foundation for expanding its news gathering relationship with our community. Our content platforms — television, radio, digital, social media and educational outreach — exist to serve the diversity of our region. We explore complicated issues with thoughtful reporting. We share the diverse stories of people, places, and progress in our community. We advance conversations through community engagement and social media. Specifically, Kansas City PBS operates four KCPT-related public television channels; KTBG 90.9 The Bridge, an NPR-affiliated AAA music station; and FlatlandKC, an online digital magazine; in addition to social media and community events.  

Rappahannock News & Foothills Forum

News desert? Check. The weekly News is the lone legitimate mainstream print/online outlet. The Rappahannock News has served the 7,300 residents of rural Rappahannock County, Va., since 1949. Its parent company is owned by a group of community investors.

The Maine Monitor

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization located in Augusta, Maine. It was founded in 2009 by veteran journalists John Christie and Naomi Schallit to help offset some of the deeper journalism that was quickly evaporating as Maine newspapers slashed staffs. The news organization produces investigative and enterprise journalism on politics, healthcare, the environment and education, and publishes Pine Tree Watch.

WYSO Public Radio

WYSO is the only National Public Radio affiliate station in the Dayton, Ohio, area. The station also does local and state news along with public affairs programming and news specials. WYSO station began broadcasting in 1958 as a student-run station on the campus of Antioch College. Today, it belongs to the community, with oversight from a seven-member board of directors comprised of community leaders. It reaches 14 counties in southwest Ohio.
