Federal policy changes, including increased immigration enforcement, are hitting Cowlitz County in Southwest Washington, home to a growing Hispanic community. Nearly 11% of Cowlitz County’s roughly 100,000 residents identify as Hispanic, according to U.S. Census data. We are looking for a reporter to build trust with the community and tell the full stories of why they immigrated to the U.S., their role in the community and the local deportation efforts. Recent federal government changes have also resulted in funding cuts and layoffs across federal agencies, including the region's Gifford Pinchot National Forest. This reporter will explain how the actions in Washington, D.C., affect those in our rural Southwest Washington county. The reporter will also cover Cowlitz County government meetings, where funding from the federal and state governments, including for the sheriff's office and the courts, is funneled.

Salary and Benefits: $41,300 - $41,600
