MLK50: Justice Through Journalism is a nonprofit digital news outlet focused on poverty, power and public policy. Our mission is to use the tools of journalism to examine how power and public policy impact the poor, amplify voices of the marginalized and equip residents to spur reform. Inspired by civil rights icon Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and investigative reporter Ida B. Wells, MLK50 covers Memphis, Tennessee, the nation’s second poorest large metropolitan area. MLK50 launched in April 2017 during the run-up to the 50th anniversary of Dr. King’s assassination. It has quickly become a trusted source of original reporting and commentary that centers the people Dr. King would be aligned with were he still alive.
