Open Vallejo

Open Vallejo is an award-winning, independent, non-partisan, nonprofit newsroom serving the public interest. We seek to illuminate a small city long burdened by police violence, corruption and neglect.

As the first project of the Informed California Foundation, Open Vallejo is also a permanent design laboratory for open source, high-impact, broadly-accessible frameworks for ensuring local transparency, accountability and information justice.

Open Position

Location: Oakland, CA

Beat: Investigative reporter covering Vallejo government, corruption, and underreported community issues

Position:

The reporter will focus primarily on investigating and reporting on local government institutions, particularly Vallejo police.The City of Vallejo's government has demonstrated resistance to reform, with numerous instances of corruption and a lack of transparency. The corps member, through rigorous investigative reporting, will expose these issues, fostering accountability and driving much-needed reform. In addition, the beat will also cover a range of other underreported issues that deeply impact the Vallejo community, including racial justice, LGBT+ rights, women’s rights, labor issues and more.

Salary and Benefits:
$70,000 – $85,000 annually

This position will be:
Hybrid (some days in the office per week)
