Beat: Data/local government reporting in Kansas City, MO
This reporter uncovers, investigates and visualizes large-scale datasets from local governments and other civic institutions. They work with KC Digital Drive, a local nonprofit organization deeply involved in the civic tech space that hosts Code for KC, the local Code for America brigade. The data journalist can provide the journalistic talent to help find and share stories in the data; KC Digital Drive can provide volunteer data scientists, coders and developers to amplify the research and final product. This is a partnership that could be replicated with other Code for America brigades and journalism outlets across the U.S.
