The Download News

The Download is a local Black nonprofit news organization. First incubated by the PA Alliance Foundation in 2022, and newly established as an independent entity in 2025, we are a nimble, growing news startup that serves audiences between 18-45. We chronicle daily life in Black Philadelphia, with care. We aspire to build narrative power that inspires audiences to become active storytellers and engaged participants in civic life, driving intergenerational change.

Position:

We are seeking a photojournalist who produces engaging, innovative photojournalism across breaking news, in-depth features, enterprising photo essays that bring creativity and care to community journalism. This staff photographer would be expected to align with The Philly Download’s editorial values. The ideal candidate brings both technical proficiency and a strong creative vision with high standards for visual storytelling and an openness to diverse approaches and able to elevate our journalism across all platforms.

Salary and Benefits: 60,000-70,000

Health insurance, unlimited PTO, organization-provided laptop, camera, lens and hard drives.

Moving Stipend: We can offer a $2,500 moving stipend.
