Boise State Public Radio

Boise State Public Radio serves two-thirds of the population of Idaho through a network of 18 transmitters and translators, primarily focused in southern Idaho. It is Idaho’s primary NPR member station, serving both metropolitan and rural areas. The organization’s mission is to stimulate, educate, inform and entertain.

Institute for Public Service Reporting at the University of Memphis

The Institute for Public Service Reporting is a nonprofit newsroom on the campus of the University of Memphis specializing in investigative reporting and in-depth explanatory journalism—an arm of the university with a firewall protecting their editorial independence. Its mission is to provide robust, civic-minded journalism that promotes a vibrant democracy, fosters inclusiveness and enriches the lives of the people of greater Memphis, including many underserved communities. Stories appear on its news site, and on The Daily Memphian, a nonprofit news site.

The Land

The Land was created in 2020 to report on Cleveland’s neighborhoods, economy and local government, delivering in-depth stories that foster accountability, inform the community, and inspire people to take action. This nonprofit started with a free website and a newsletter, and today it has built a diverse board, fostered community partnerships, welcomed thousands of subscribers, created an internship program and reporting fellowship for journalists of color, and published hundreds of stories.

The Current

The Current is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization founded in 2020 to provide free in-depth watchdog journalism for Savannah and other coastal Georgia areas. This news organization holds the powerful to account, illuminates public threats and helps build a more engaged society built on trustworthy facts. Its governing board consists of local business and community leaders committed to solving inequality and improving lives.

Bozeman Daily Chronicle

The Bozeman Daily Chronicle has published for more than a century, covering Gallatin County and beyond in southwestern Montana. The paper publishes six days a week, and has a robust online presence.

Interlochen Public Radio/Traverse City Record-Eagle

Interlochen Public Radio, an NPR affiliate based in Interlochen, Michigan, has a mission to produce high-quality work, offer a nuanced and complete view of northern Michigan, and lead in coverage of natural resource issues. The Traverse City Record-Eagle is a news site and a daily paper with a 165-year history of serving communities in northern Michigan—a steadfast source for watchdog and enterprise journalism.

The Missouri Independent

The Missouri Independent was founded in October 2020 with a mission to fill the gap in state Capitol coverage created by downsizing newsrooms. This nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization focuses on in-depth, enterprise reporting in the public interest, and provides that work at no charge to readers and other news organizations around the state. It is the largest news organization solely focused on state government and politics in Missouri.

Daily Herald

The Daily Herald is a 149-year-old, employee-owned news organization, and the largest in suburban Chicago. These suburbs account for half the population of the Chicago metro area and have the vast majority of the region’s governmental entities. There are 75 towns, 96 school districts and six counties and court systems in this area, offering rich opportunities for enterprising reporters.

Centro de Periodismo Investigativo

The Centro de Periodismo Investigativo is a nonprofit that produces in-depth investigative journalism, published in both Spanish and English, and distributes its content free of charge to readers and media outlets in Puerto Rico and abroad. The CPI has won recognition producing stories on corruption, cronyism in government, electoral campaigns, and public policy in health, education, the economy and the environment. Its work has proven to be crucial and in some instances pivotal in bringing about social change, accountability, recovery and justice.

KOSU

KOSU is a member-supported public radio network, and its broadcast signals cover two-thirds of Oklahoma with a heavy rural focus. This news organization, including a news site, delivers award-winning local news and NPR news. KOSU provides a place for civil discourse through in-depth reporting on agriculture, rural issues, Indigenous affairs, education and health care and conversation.
