Nathan Collins

Prior to joining The New Bedford Light, Collins investigated everything from a statewide surveillance network to private prisons for The News & Observer, and dug into public records as the Dallas accountability reporter for the North Texas NPR affiliate. He started his career in graduate school working on a national investigation into police tactics with The Associated Press, which was later named a Pulitzer Prize finalist. Collins holds a master’s degree in investigative journalism from Arizona State University and a bachelor's degree in music from the University of Southern California. Before becoming a reporter, he was a professional musician who recorded and performed with artists including Solange Knowles and Creedence Clearwater Revival frontman, John Fogerty.

Anna Oakes

Anna Oakes covers children and families for The Current. Before joining The Current, she was a freelance journalist and podcast producer covering immigration, housing, protests and free speech, and, occasionally, rat infestations around New York City. Anna has written for outlets including The Guardian, El Pais, Documented, The City Reporter, and Hell Gate. As a 2025 Reporting Fellow at the Pulitzer Center, she reported on the impacts of US immigration policy across Mexico’s northern and southern borders, including US veterans deported to Tijuana and Haitian asylum seekers stranded in Chiapas. Anna has produced and co-hosted podcasts for LWC Studios, Heritage Radio Network, and Radiotopia Presents, including the podcast “Bot Love,” listed as one of The Atlantic’s best podcasts of 2023. Anna is a graduate of Wesleyan University and Columbia Journalism School.

Bridge Michigan

Since 2011, Bridge Michigan has pursued a mission of making Michigan better through high-quality, nonpartisan journalism and engagement. Bridge Michigan provides in-depth coverage of state government and how its policies affect people’s lives, with an emphasis on politics, education, health, business, data and the environment. In 2025, Bridge Michigan introduced two regional newsletters, offering readers localized reporting on the issues and stories most relevant to their communities.

Daily Independent

Independent Newsmedia is a unique publishing and printing company that supports every American’s First Amendment rights and encourages and assists citizens in exercising those rights responsibly. We operate 21 newspapers in the Phoenix-area market and a website with more the 2.8 million annual users. We pursue this mission by publishing community newspapers, by providing printing services to other publishers, and by creating citizen-driven community websites for the 21st Century and beyond. Our unique structure is designed to maintain our independence. We pay taxes like any other company, but there are no shareholders, no dividends are paid, and all after-tax profits are reinvested in serving our mission. We are held in sacred trust by a rotating group of five trustees who believe in our mission and are pledged not to benefit personally from their involvement.

Investigative Project on Race and Equity

The Investigative Project on Race and Equity focuses on exposing systemic racism by uncovering discriminatory practices and shining a light on abuses of power that drive racial and economic disparities. Through data and deep-dive investigations, the Project on Race and Equity tell stories that inform people about social issues — and build and analyze databases to bring systemic injustice into focus.

Metro Puerto Rico

Metro Puerto Rico is a local newspaper that focuses on issues of interest to audiences in Puerto Rico. It has distinguished itself through its multiplatform reach and strong editorial independence. The brand reaches 1.5 million unique users on the web each month and circulates every Thursday in the main cities across Puerto Rico.
