Jackie Sedley

Jackie Sedley covers all things environment and climate for KGNU in Boulder, CO. Before moving to Mountain Time, she lived in sunny California working as the Internal News Director for KCSB-FM in Santa Barbara. Her journalism career thus far has also included freelancing for the New York Times, fill-in producing and freelance reporting for KCRW and working as Editor-in-Chief for her community college newspaper. Sedley was introduced to journalism during her sophomore year of high school, when she joined her high school newspaper as a novice staff writer. After working her way up to News Editor and eventually Editor-in-Chief, she realized her thirst for reporting was truly unquenchable. Over the past 10 years Sedley has covered raging fires, housing crises, local elections, protests and more. Journalism is both the reason Jackie Sedley wakes up in the morning, and the reason she does not sleep enough at night.

Lillian M. Hernández Caraballo

Lillian (Lilly) Hernández Caraballo is a bilingual, multimedia journalist based in Central Florida, reporting for WMFE 90.7 in Orlando. Before joining Report for America, Caraballo was a writer, paginator and editor for the weekly periodical Hometown News and an associate producer for Spectrum News 13, a top 20 TV market. She graduated from University of Central Florida in 2021 with a bachelor's degree in journalism, a minor in writing and rhetoric and a certification in Hispanic media. At the school, Caraballo was editor-in-chief of NSM Today, the student newspaper, and interned with several news outlets, including WKMG News 6, WUCF 89.9 and the Mississippi Center for Investigative Reporting. During her time at WUCF, she collaborated to host, manage and web produce the award-winning project "The Road to Freedom Avenue: The Legacy of Harry T. and Harriette V. Moore." Her role in that project was instrumental in earning the organization a National Edward R. Murrow Award in 2022, for Excellence in Digital Reporting, among other accolades.

Michael Symonds

Michael Symonds tackles the rural meets metro beat at WMUK 102.1 FM in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Symonds started his journalistic career as staff reporter with the Western Herald covering news and community, and cultural issues and events on Western Michigan University’s campus. After this position, Symonds worked as the lead Community & Culture reporter for the Western Herald. In addition to this, he worked as a general assignment staff reporter for WMUK 102.1 FM covering life in Southwest Michigan and hosted the talk show Stupid Questions on 89.1 WIDR FM, where he interviewed myriad guests including political experts and registered student organization leaders. Symonds graduated from Western Michigan University in 2023 with a bachelor's in journalism and digital media.

Nikolai Mather

Nikolai Mather covers rural communities for WHQR in Wilmington, North Carolina. Previously, he reported on religion for the Athens-Banner Herald in Athens, Georgia and social justice for Queen City Nerve in Charlotte, North Carolina. Mather was a Levine Scholar at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte, where he earned a bachelor's degree in political science and served as the opinion editor of the student paper. He primarily studied genocide, winning a scholarship to study the Holocaust in Berlin with Humanity in Action. He has worked in Norway, France and the United Kingdom, but calls the South home.

Vermont Public/VTDigger

VPR knits Vermonters together with its statewide network, as well as serving “Vermontophiles” in surrounding states, Canada and around the world. We provide a variety of local and NPR and other programming, including two daily news programs, “Morning Edition,” and “All Things Considered,” a daily talk show “Vermont Edition” and our people-powered “Brave Little State” project. Our reporters generate dozens of newscast items and in-depth stories a week. And we maintain a robust website. We are a respected institution in our state, and recognized for innovation in serving our mostly-rural audience. As Vermont’s daily newspapers and commercial broadcasters are struggling and reducing staff, VPR is determined to work with our partners to preserve great reporting in all parts of our state.

WFIU/WTIU News – Indiana Public Media

WFIU/WTIU News is the NPR/PBS affiliate covering southern and central Indiana. Our radio and television newsrooms were among the first public operations to converge in 2010, reporting across platforms for radio, television and digital. Each day we produce 10 radio newscasts, two television newsbreaks, and a daily e-newsletter, plus weekly shows, features and a robust news website that serves our region with local news. Our team provides young journalists with excellent editorial support and mentoring.

WGLT

Founded in 1966 and licensed to Illinois State University, WGLT is an NPR member station providing the highest quality local, national and international news, balanced with music and culture. WGLT champions independent nonprofit journalism as a public service with on-air and digital content freely available. WGLT also serves as a training ground for emerging journalists. In the last decade, WGLT has won nearly 50 awards for journalism, including six regional Edward R. Murrow Awards.

WHQR Public Media

WHQR is a publicly funded nonprofit radio newsroom serving the Cape Fear Region of North Carolina. As WHQR's newsroom, we are dedicated to fair, in-depth, investigative journalism aimed at holding local government accountable. While our radio waves extend beyond the county we’re housed in, our coverage historically has not gone as far out into rural areas. We aim to change that, and bring our caliber of watchdog coverage to government agencies in surrounding counties.

Central Florida Public Media provides Central Florida with journalism and fact-based content that empower the community to better understand and participate in our diverse and complex world. We serve Central Floridians who seek unbiased, factual, truthful information and nuanced discussion — people who share a common curiosity and concern about the complex issues and challenges facing our community, nation, and world.

KGNU

KGNU broadcasts a mix of local, state, national and world news, philosophical and cultural programs, and eclectic music. In order to achieve our mission to amplify underserved voices through the production of diverse programs, KGNU works through a participatory media lens, inviting and training others to join the mission. Four years ago we launched an equity reporting initiative and a broader media training program to prioritize local reporting in Boulder County. KGNU serves Boulder, Denver and much of the northern Front Range of Colorado.
