The Mendocino Voice

The Mendocino Voice, founded in 2016, is an online, independent news service focused on breaking news, government reporting and environmental and community issues. Publishing daily on the site and across social platforms, it also collaborates with regional outlets. The goal is to provide coverage to communities that were underserved by traditional news outlets, and The Mendocino Voice is transitioning to a community-owned organization to reflect this mission.

Chicago Sun-Times

The Chicago Sun-Times serves readers in Chicago, the six-county metro region and northwest Indiana. For years, it has been providing a voice to the voiceless by publishing the work of a diverse group of journalists. The paper has won eight Pulitzer Prizes, two George Polk Awards for investigative journalism, and numerous other national and local awards for righting wrongs and changing public policy.

The Missouri Independent

The Missouri Independent was founded in October 2020 with a mission to fill the gap in state Capitol coverage created by downsizing newsrooms. This nonpartisan, nonprofit news organization focuses on in-depth, enterprise reporting in the public interest, and provides that work at no charge to readers and other news organizations around the state. It is the largest news organization solely focused on state government and politics in Missouri.

Community Impact Newspaper

Community Impact Newspaper, a hyperlocal paper started in 2005, has grown to 35 monthly papers in the Austin, Houston, Dallas-Fort Worth, Phoenix, San Antonio, and Nashville metros.This news organization delivers its free papers to 2.7 million mailboxes monthly, and offers free daily digital to support communities.

The Mitchell Republic/Forum News Service

The Mitchell Republic covers 17 mostly rural counties in central South Dakota. The website and twice-weekly print edition are the primary source of community news in the region. This news organization is part of Forum Communications, a network of community-driven newsrooms, broadcast stations and new media services.

Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Free Press news site, and a paper published three days a week, aims for consistent revelatory enterprise that enlightens and mobilizes readers. During the last five years, it has introduced several initiatives aiming to strengthen democracy, hold more public officials accountable and build trust with audiences who haven't received the attention they deserve from local media.This news organization has earned 10 Pulitzer Prizes.

The Sacramento Observer

The Sacramento Observer has been publishing since 1962, addressing issues of importance to the African American community. Its mission is to inform the community—on its news site and in its weekly paper. The Observer has been honored with more than 700 local and national awards for journalism excellence and outstanding community service, including being named the nation’s best Black newspaper six times by the National Newspaper Publishers Association

Documented

Documented is a nonprofit news site that addresses the lack of local news for and about New York City’s 3.1 million immigrants. It regularly publishes investigative pieces that have had a widespread impact on local policy. The mission is to ensure that immigrant residents are also readers, and in 2019 they launched a Spanish-language WhatsApp-based news service to better serve Spanish-speaking immigrants.

The Salt Lake Tribune

The Salt Lake Tribune became a nonprofit in late 2019, and the news organization is now owned by the community and under the stewardship of a board. In 2020, The Tribune established its mission statement, built its board and launched its supporting subscribers programs. The mission: The Tribune is Utah’s independent voice. Building on a legacy of courageous, watchdog journalism, this news organization strives to tell stories that are interesting, important and inclusive. Dedicated to fairness and accuracy, it aims to engage and empower readers.

Yellowstone Public Radio

Yellowstone Public Radio, an NPR affiliate, is the largest public radio network in the continental United States. Covering Billings, Bozeman, Helena and the rural areas of Montana and Northern Wyoming, YPR is the definitive news source for many of rural listeners, distributing news content over its website and mobile app.
