Tampa Bay Times

The Tampa Bay Times is the largest newspaper in Florida, with a rich, award-winning history of investigative, narrative and enterprise journalism. We have 120 journalists covering three counties and the state of Florida. That includes reporters and editors across news, investigations, enterprise, features, sports and digital. Our ownership structure is unique in journalism, preserved by our late visionary owner, Nelson Poynter. He bequeathed the newspaper to a school for journalists here in St. Petersburg, now known as the Poynter Institute, to protect our independence. We take that independence very seriously, focusing our resources on distinct, exceptional reporting. Our mission as a news organization traces back to our founding in 1884: to report the truth and contribute to an informed society. That mission depends on maintaining our credibility within the community. Poynter said it best in 1961: “When we turn to history we can draw inspiration from those who risked their necks and their economic lives to keep the free press free. Every year newspapers are cited for Pulitzer prizes and other awards in recognition of spectacular crusades and courage. But we have an even greater daily triumph of American journalism in helping to fulfill less spectacular but imperative needs. Without these self-government cannot endure.”

North Carolina Health News

NC Health News launched in January 2012 in response to the disappearance of people to explain this complicated topic. Our reporters each take on multiple roles. Topics include children’s health and Medicaid, oral health, mental health, rural healthcare, environmental health issues and legislative health issues. We’ve been a “virtual” newsroom, with reporters spread across the state. We have a weekly phone-in via Google Hangout and there’s almost constant communication via phone, text, email, Slack, etc. However, we’re renting a physical office in the Triangle to better accommodate meetings and provide a hub for operations.

La Noticia

La Noticia, The Spanish-Language Newspaper, is the largest Spanish-language Newspaper in North Carolina. We have been serving the Latino community here for 22 years. We cover immigration, local and state government, politics and community news and events. Our readers are immigrants from Latin America who prefer to read in Spanish. They are new to the country and they rely on La Noticia to provide them with local news and information in their own language, that will help them make informed decisions and also help them adapt to the culture in the United States, in North Carolina and in the cities where we serve and they live.

Dillon Bergin

Dillon Bergin covers the environment for Searchlight New Mexico, focusing on the state’s booming oil and gas industries. He has written about immigration and migration, climate change, and food for the New Republic and the Philadelphia Inquirer. He was a Fulbright Germany Journalism Fellow from 2019 to 2020. A proud Midwesterner from South Bend, Indiana, he’s spent the last four years between Philadelphia, where he went to school, and Freiburg, Germany where his heart resides. For Searchlight New Mexico, Dillon investigates the way the state’s oil and gas industries affect New Mexico’s land, water and wildlife, and the impact of these industries on the health of New Mexicans.

Long Beach Post

Long Beach Post is a daily, digital publication covering news, life, business, placemaking, food, sports, LGBT issues and more in the city of Long Beach, California. We became the largest newsroom in the city last summer when a handful of journalists from the city's legacy newspaper resigned amid an onslaught of layoffs and cutbacks at their publication and joined the Post.

VTDigger.org

VTDigger is a nonprofit daily news organization dedicated to watchdog reporting on Vermont institutions, businesses and government. Its mission is to produce rigorous journalism that explains issues, holds government officials and entities accountable and engages Vermonters in democratic processes. The staff produces in-depth stories on health care, politics, business, criminal justice, the environment and education.  

Valley News

The Valley News covers an area along the New Hampshire/Vermont border that includes more than 40 towns in four counties. The newspaper seeks to connect, engage, inform and give voice to residents of the Upper Valley with a focus on accountability for those in positions of authority, matters of public interest and enriching the lives of readers.

Tampa Bay Times

In the past six months, our reporters uncovered an intelligence-based policing program in nearby Pasco County meant to stop crime before it happened. As the pandemic took hold, we built a Scrapbook to capture what was happening to people’s lives, organizing dozens of contributions from readers. And we're two years into an astonishing story about black cemeteries across the Tampa Bay area that time and development forgot. The ownership structure is unique in journalism. The visionary owner, Nelson Poynter, bequeathed the newspaper to a school for journalists here in St. Petersburg, now known as the Poynter Institute, to protect our independence.

The Kansas City Beacon

The Kansas City Beacon is a non-profit online news outlet focused on in-depth journalism in the public interest. It launched in March 2020 and is part of The Beacon, a regional nonprofit news network serving Kansas and Missouri. Beacon stories are revelatory, contextual, data-driven and solutions-driven. Our reporting centers around issues in healthcare, education, economics, environment and civic engagement.

The Community Voice

The Community Voice is a bi-weekly, state-wide publication that targets Kansas’ African-American community. The publication was founded in 1993, and purchased by the Gooch family in 1996. The publication was originally a monthly, and has been bi-weekly for almost two decades. Until 2015, our coverage area was predominately the Wichita community, but we’ve expanded into the Kansas City market, focusing heavily on the Kansas side of the metropolitan area. Again, in response to a request to expand, we formally expanded our coverage in 2018 to include the Missouri side of the Kansas City metropolitan area.
