Dallas Free Press

Dallas Free Press, a nonprofit news site, launched in January 2020 with the mission of amplifying voices and exploring solutions to the city’s systemic inequities. It focuses community journalism efforts on three zip codes in South Dallas and West Dallas, which are predominantly Black and Latino neighborhoods, respectively.

The Mitchell Republic/Forum News Service

The Mitchell Republic covers 17 mostly rural counties in central South Dakota. The website and twice-weekly print edition are the primary source of community news in the region. This news organization is part of Forum Communications, a network of community-driven newsrooms, broadcast stations and new media services.

Enlace Latino NC

Enlace Latino NC is a nonprofit digital news organization. Its mission is to empower the diverse community of Latino immigrants in North Carolina to become more involved in the political and social changes that affect them, by publishing independent, nonpartisan, public service journalism in Spanish.

InvestigateWest

InvestigateWest is a nonprofit news organization founded in 2009 that is dedicated to change-making investigative journalism for the Pacific Northwest. The Northwest-based newsroom covers a range of topics including the environment and climate change, health inequities, social justice, voting rights and government accountability. Our reporting appears on our website and is regularly republished by 15 news outlets across Washington, Oregon and Idaho. We also frequently partner with national publications including The Washington Post, The Atlantic and The Guardian.

Voice of OC

Voice of OC was established in 2009 to cover local civic news. A nonpartisan, nonprofit digital news organization, it produces fact-based news every day on the inner workings of local government and agencies. Voice of OC offers readers free coverage.

NonDoc Media

NonDoc is a nonprofit digital news organization with a mission to strengthen Oklahoma communities through responsible local journalism that is unbiased and free. It has also worked to fill coverage gaps at the Oklahoma State Capitol, in tribal elections and in rural communities.

Ouray County Plaindealer

The Ouray County Plaindealer publishes a weekly paper and its news site and e-newsletter also provide vital, reliable information to this rural part of Colorado. Maintaining high standards for accuracy and fairness, its goal is to contribute to a vibrant, informed community by serving a narrow niche—primarily covering news in a county of 5,000. The publishers were recognized with the Colorado Society of Professional Journalists’ Keeper of the Flame Award in 2021 for their tenacious advocacy for the public’s right to know and hold government accountable.

Outlier Media

Outlier Media is nonprofit service journalism organization. It identifies, reports, and delivers valuable information to empower residents, holding municipal government and elected officials accountable for long-standing problems. Outlier aims to leave people with the information they need to create change in their communities.

Baltimore Afro-American

The Baltimore Afro-American is a news service, founded in 1892, that writes and reports news for and about African Americans. Staffers' reporting appears on the news site, in the weekly paper, and on social media platforms. The reporting includes a type of advocacy journalism that goes beyond reporting facts, and lends itself to how the news affects African Americans and their communities.

The Mendocino Voice

The Mendocino Voice, founded in 2016, is an online, independent news service focused on breaking news, government reporting and environmental and community issues. Publishing daily on the site and across social platforms, it also collaborates with regional outlets. The goal is to provide coverage to communities that were underserved by traditional news outlets, and The Mendocino Voice is transitioning to a community-owned organization to reflect this mission.
