WAER Syracuse Public Media

WAER Public Media, founded at Syracuse University in 1947 as one of the nation's first educational FM stations, serves Central New York with trusted news, music, and sports coverage. A commercial-free, listener-supported NPR affiliate, WAER is housed within the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications and provides professional training for emerging journalists and broadcasters. Its mission is to enlighten, engage, and entertain the community while fostering informed citizenship and lifelong learning.

Metro Puerto Rico is a local newspaper that focuses on issues of interest to audiences in Puerto Rico. It has distinguished itself through its multiplatform reach and strong editorial independence. The brand reaches 1.5 million unique users on the web each month and circulates every Thursday in the main cities across Puerto Rico.

For 90 years, the Michigan Chronicle has been a trusted voice for Detroit’s Black community, amplifying stories that matter, shaping public discourse, and making sure leaders do what they say. The Chronicle is rooted in legacy yet driven by innovation. The Michigan Chronicle is more than a news organization. It is community partner celebrating progress, challenging inequity, and documenting history as it’s being made.

Mission Local is a non-profit newsroom rooted in our mission: ground-up reporting that is free for all and produced by reporters and editors who reflect the city's diversity. Our street reporting model often leads to investigative pieces impacting everyone in the city.

Mississippi Free Press

The Mississippi Free Press is a statewide nonprofit news organization founded in March 2020 to “publish deep public-interest reporting into causes of and solutions to the social, political and structural challenges facing all Mississippians and their communities.” Reporters produce what we call “systemic journalism,” which investigates the underlying racial, historic and current structures that create and sustain challenges such as poverty, health disparities and education inequities. The MFP centers people, connecting personal stories to larger systems and actions by the powerful. Reporters go beyond documenting problems to explore and interrogate solutions.

Salem Reporter

Salem Reporter, locally owned by a veteran Oregon journalist, is focused exclusively on reporting about the Salem area, delivering our work through our website and newsletters. Salem Reporter provides clear and compelling coverage of local government, insights into the people who hold power in the community and daily news about everything from community events to students making a difference. Our team of reporters is trusted for award-winning enterprise and investigative work.

Athens County Independent

Athens County Independent (ACI) is a nonprofit digital newsroom that empowers community engagement through accessible public service journalism. The coverage encompasses a variety of topics, with particular emphasis on government accountability, elections, and environmental issues. ACI is a democratically worker-directed nonprofit in which all staff have a voice in and a responsibility for the newsroom's success, and where everyone is supported, included and valued.

Austin Free Press

Austin Free Press is a non-profit, digital news platform, who seeks input from community members to guide content. Before publishing we partnered with our local historically Black university, Huston-Tillotson, to train underrepresented students as journalists and to write for AFP. Our goal is to increase accuracy in news reporting by centering our coverage on underserved communities and issues, and promote civil dialogue to empower all Austinites to make more informed decisions about our community.

The Download News

The Download is a local Black nonprofit news organization. First incubated by the PA Alliance Foundation in 2022, and newly established as an independent entity in 2025, we are a nimble, growing news startup that serves audiences between 18-45. We chronicle daily life in Black Philadelphia, with care. We aspire to build narrative power that inspires audiences to become active storytellers and engaged participants in civic life, driving intergenerational change.

Times Union

The Times Union is the dominant media organization in NY’s Capital Region, and in the past four years has expanded its coverage area to include the Hudson Valley and (in partnership with a nonprofit) the Adirondacks. In addition to covering the news and events of the region, we are recognized for our statehouse coverage and watchdog journalism. The paper has been in operation since the Civil War and has been part of Hearst Newspaper Group for a century.
