Block Club Chicago is a nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization dedicated to covering Chicago’s neighborhoods. The news organization’s mission is to cover the city through a truly block-level lens that encourages people to get involved at a local level—whether that’s through campaigning for a local school council seat or trying a family-owned restaurant instead of a chain. Block Clubs seeks to build community through ground-level reporting of the city’s neighborhoods.

Beat: Lakeview/Boystown/Lincoln Park areas, home to the largest population of the city's LGBTQ community.
Position: This beat helps fill the void in the Lakeview/Boystown/Lincoln Park area, home to the largest population of Chicago’s LGBTQ community. From covering the impact of the expanding Wrigley Field on the neighborhood to giving a voice to the many LGBTQ organizations that are creating change by fighting bigotry, there are a wealth of stories that aren’t being covered right now. Instead of dropping in, this reporter is responsible for daily coverage of what is happening in these neighborhoods. This isn’t one story a week from a coverage area, it is six or more stories per week that are relevant to people living, working and spending time in Lakeview and on the city’s West Side. The coversge not only serves the people living in these under-covered areas, but serves the larger Chicago population by providing more robust coverage of their city.
