Located less than an hour from Washington, D.C., Piedmont Media operates two print and digital news sites serving Prince William and Fauquier counties. The organization has consistently produced award-winning journalism and is financially stable with strong philanthropic support. We are in the midst of a transformation of two traditional weekly newspapers — the Prince William Times and the Fauquier Times — to more strongly connect with readers. We are seeking to grow our coverage of diverse communities.

Location: Warrenton, VA

Beat: Education beat reporter

Position:

The Prince William County education beat reporter covers a major school district with 90,000 children, including 70 percent children of color and 31 percent economically disadvantaged students. The reporter will write daily and enterprise stories and help grow our coverage of diverse communities. Our goal over the next two years is to reorient our coverage to connect more deeply and authentically with our many ethnic communities. The education beat is a key part of that strategy.

Salary and Benefits:
$55,000-$70,000

Shared cost medical/dental/vision insurance is offered.
Two weeks paid time off plus 13 paid holidays. Last week of December is dark and paid. A 401K plan with a 3 percent company match. Reporters are issued a company laptop and receive a monthly stipend for mileage and cell phone expenses.

This position will be:
Hybrid (some days in the office per week)

Moving Stipend:
We can reimburse moving expenses up to $1,000.
