WYSO Public Radio

WYSO is the only National Public Radio affiliate station in the Dayton, Ohio, area. The station also does local and state news along with public affairs programming and news specials. WYSO station began broadcasting in 1958 as a student-run station on the campus of Antioch College. Today, it belongs to the community, with oversight from a seven-member board of directors comprised of community leaders. It reaches 14 counties in southwest Ohio.

Cincinnati.com / The Enquirer

Founded in 1841, The Enquirer publishes primarily via the Cincinnati.com website, the Cincinnati.com app and a daily newspaper. Winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for local reporting, The Enquirer is part of the Gannett-owned USA Today network. The local news site covers seven counties in the Greater Cincinnati region, maintains a two-person bureau in the statehouse bureau and serves as a primary source for investigative and watchdog journalism in the region.

The Maine Monitor

The Maine Center for Public Interest Reporting is an independent, nonprofit, nonpartisan news organization located in Augusta, Maine. It was founded in 2009 by veteran journalists John Christie and Naomi Schalit to help offset some of the deeper journalism that was quickly evaporating as Maine newspapers slashed staffs. The news organization produces investigative and enterprise journalism on politics, healthcare, the environment and education, and publishes Pine Tree Watch.

Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting

The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom based in Louisville with coverage focused statewide. Our mission is to protect society’s most vulnerable citizens, expose wrongdoing in the public and private sectors, increase transparency in government and hold leaders accountable. KyCIR is the creation of the nonprofit Louisville Public Media, which announced KyCIR’s formation in spring 2013. We are a part of the WFPL newsroom, an NPR affiliate.

Centro de Periodismo Investigativo

The Centro de Periodismo Investigativo is a 501c3 non-profit that investigates and distributes its content free of charge, directly to readers and mass media outlets in Puerto Rico and abroad. Founded in 2007 by journalists, the CPI produces quality in-depth journalism free of political and commercial ties through its website and media allies. In recent years, the CPI has been at the forefront in chronicling major news on the island, from a decade-long economic crisis and five years of bankruptcy to the trauma of two catastrophic hurricanes. In 2019, it published a leaked chat that exposed the corruption of former Gov. Ricardo Rosello and his administration, which culminated in massive street protests that led to his resignation from office.

San Antonio Express-News

The San Antonio Express-News is a legacy daily whose roots go back to 1865. For many years, the paper was known as “the Voice of South Texas,” a motto that still appears on our masthead. San Antonio is one of the fastest-growing cities in the country, and we aim to be an authoritative and indispensable source of local and regional news. We aggressively cover City Hall, county government, the largest local school districts, courts and law enforcement. We also do ambitious enterprise reporting on the U.S.-Mexico border and U.S. immigration policy. Other coverage priorities include local arts and cultural institutions, high school sports, the San Antonio Spurs, and a burgeoning food and restaurant scene. Our editorial board maintains a robust opinion section – two pages per day of editorials, letters and op-ed pieces. We are part of Hearst Co. and share a Statehouse bureau in Austin and a Washington team with our sister paper, the Houston Chronicle.

Mountain State Spotlight

This new investigative and enterprise hub was launched in 2020 and is led by longtime West Virginia journalists Greg Moore, a former editor at the Charleston Gazette-Mail, and Ken Ward Jr., a MacArthur Foundation “Genius” grant winner for his longtime work covering coal mining and other polluting industries. The staff includes four current RFA Corps members.

Traverse City Record-Eagle

The Traverse City Record-Eagle is northern Michigan’s largest news outlet, operating print and digital publications, including a daily print edition, a quarterly magazine and two podcasts. The Record-Eagle has a strong history of strong watchdog reporting complemented by artful narrative writing. Our newsroom is situated in downtown Traverse City, but serves a five-county core coverage area as well as broad, growing sections of news desert in northern Michigan.

AL.com is the largest digital news site in Alabama, and one of the nation’s largest local news sites. It is part of the Alabama Media Group, which also operates social brand “It’s a Southern Thing,” “This is Alabama,” “People of Alabama” and the millennial-focused news brand “Reckon.” Alabama Media Group is part of Advance Local. Content for AL.com comes from three Advance Local newspapers: The Mobile Press Register, Birmingham News, Huntsville Times. The staff includes 75 reporters, editors, social producers and videographers.

The Salt Lake Tribune

The Salt Lake Tribune was founded as an alternative voice in 1871. From air quality to cultural trends to analysis of the Utah Jazz, the news organization’s goal is to inform, enlighten and empower Utahns with news they can trust. The Salt Lake Tribune is Utah’s leader in accountability journalism and investigative reporting, consistently pushing for access, open records and transparency through requests, appeals, legislation and, when necessary, litigation.
