Founded in 2016 by award-winning journalist John Adams, MTFP is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, public-powered news organization dedicated to serving the information needs of all Montanans. In November 2024, Mountain Journal (est. 2017) became part of MTFP, uniting around a mission of deeply reported journalism on water, wildlife, energy, climate and land use in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem. This reporter will also be writing stories for national climate news outlet Grist, as part of the partnership with Mountain Journal.

HCMG is the state’s largest newsroom, with around 130 journalists covering breaking news, high school and UConn sports, politics and government, business, real estate and development, education, food and trending topics. We collaborate with Hearst’s DevHub on innovative data journalism.

The Post and Courier is the oldest newspaper in the South, the largest in South Carolina, and one of the few independent, family-owned papers left in the United States. That ownership translates into a growing newspaper that is expanding statewide. The Post and Courier was the winner of the 2015 Pulitzer Prize for Public Service and a four-time Pulitzer finalist. This is a writer’s newsroom. We value storytelling as a framework for context-filled, investigative reporting.

West Virginia Public Broadcasting

West Virginia Public Broadcasting is a public media dual licensee — it holds the sole statewide PBS and NPR licenses in West Virginia. WVPB covers West Virginia and many of the bordering counties of its five neighboring states. WVPB’s content output is primarily audio, but they also produce video for TV and digital platforms. They produce a live television show, The Legislature Today, every weekday during West Virginia’s 60-day legislative session. WVPB has a full-time staff of 52, with several part-time and paid intern positions. The mission of West Virginia Public Broadcasting is to educate, inform and inspire residents by telling West Virginia’s story. Closed Position: This Report for America corps member is based in Charleston, the state capital, and works under the mentorship of senior reporter, Dave Mistich, on the public affairs beat, including coverage of the legislative session. This reporter works primarily in audio. Outside of the legislative session, the focus is on the southern coalfields of West Virginia. This position fills a critical coverage gap for WVPB, while also contributing to government accountability reporting in the region.
