Founded in 1921, The Portland Press Herald is now Maine’s largest paid newspaper with statewide coverage and distribution to 263 cities and towns and a digital audience that averages 1.5 million users each month. Now under the ownership of the Maine Trust for Local News, The Press Herald is part of the state’s largest network of independent news outlets. The Maine Trust for Local News is a subsidiary of the nonprofit National Trust for Local News.

The Oklahoma Eagle

The Tulsa Local News Initiative (TLNI) is a nonprofit newsroom serving Tulsa with free, community-centered news. TLNI will launch a new newsroom and integrate the historic Oklahoma Eagle, transitioning it to a nonprofit, digital-first publication. This partnership expands The Eagle’s staff from one to four journalists and provides editorial and business support, ensuring the sustainability of one of the nation’s oldest Black newspapers, which has championed equity and African American advocacy for over 101 years.

Houston Chronicle

The Houston Chronicle has served the greater Houston metropolitan area for more than a century. As the largest newsgathering operation in Texas, the Chronicle covers a vast and diverse region of more than 7 million people, about two-thirds of whom are people of color. Our mission to keep the community informed hasn’t changed in the past century. But the way we carry out that mission is constantly evolving. We embrace digital tools that let us tell the stories of Houston in novel ways and, most importantly, to listen to our community.

Prince William Times

Illinois Times, a progressive weekly newspaper in Springfield, Illinois, celebrates its 50th year in 2025. A 1978 founding member of the Association of Alternative Newsmedia, Illinois Times is established as a leader in breaking news, in-depth reporting and longform analysis, while also covering arts and entertainment and opinion writing.

Racine County Eye
