WCAI: The Cape and Islands NPR Station

WCAI is a listener-supported public radio station and the National Public Radio affiliate serving Cape Cod, the Massachusetts South Coast, Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket. The station provides local newscasts with original reporting. It strives to celebrate the uniqueness of the communities it serves while spurring discussions about common issues.

Athens Banner-Herald

Athens Banner-Herald is an under 20,000 circulation newspaper in Athens, Georgia, owned by Gannett. The newspaper traces its history to the Southern Banner newspaper that first published on March 20, 1832. In 1921, the newspaper merged with the Athens Herald to become the Athens Banner-Herald.

WFAE

WFAE is the NPR station serving a 32-county listening area in the Charlotte region. Our mission is to produce journalism that informs, enriches and inspires. The Wichita Beacon

The Wichita Beacon is a nonprofit, digital-only news outlet based Wichita, Kansas, launching in Summer 2021. Our mission: To spur reforms in the public interest by shining light on wrongdoings and abuse by government, businesses and other institutions in the region through in-depth, solutions-driven journalism. The Beacon’s sister newsroom in Kansas City was founded in April 2019 and began publishing in early 2020.

AL.com is the largest digital news site in Alabama, and one of the nation’s largest local news sites. It is part of the Alabama Media Group, which also operates social brand “It’s a Southern Thing,” “This is Alabama,” “People of Alabama” and the millennial-focused news brand “Reckon.” Alabama Media Group is part of Advance Local. TucsonSentinel.com

Founded in 2009, the nonprofit independent TucsonSentinel.com has a mission of informing Southern Arizonans about the community challenges and unique culture of our borderlands, and public policy responses to them: "A smarter Tucson is a better Tucson." The TucsonSentinel serves readers in metro Tucson (pop. 1M), the rural stretches of Pima County, and the other border counties of Santa Cruz and Cochise. Those in our coverage area are often poor and include many new/recently moved residents; 29% of adults speak Spanish or another language at home. Two Native tribes have reservations bordering Tucson: the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the vast Tohono O’odham Nation. The Sentinel has published numerous investigations that have led to immediate changes in government policies and legislation.

WUFT News

WUFT News is a multiplatform, bilingual student-driven public media newsroom, housed in the Innovation News Center at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, and based in Gainesville. It began as WUFT-TV (a PBS affiliate), first airing in 1958, followed by WUFT-FM (an NPR affiliate) in 1981. In 2012, the TV, radio and digital news operations converged into one newsroom to cover north central Florida. The newsroom focuses on a 13-county area.

Granite State News Collaborative

The Granite State News Collaborative is a collective of nearly 20 local media, education and community partners working together to produce and share news stories on the issues that most impact New Hampshire. The idea is that together we can provide more information to more communities than we could individually. The Collaborative was founded in 2018 by a small group of journalists who assessed the state of the journalism ecosystem and thought they could do better if they worked together. The Collaborative has tackled tough topics including the opioid and mental health crises, winning several NH Press Association and New England Newspaper & Press Association Awards for its work.
