Michael Karam is The GroundTruth Project’s Development Communications Associate. Previously working in communications at Trickle Up, an international poverty alleviation nonprofit partnered with the UN's refugee agency UNHCR, Michael was the refugee team’s storyteller, visiting Zambia and Ecuador to document the experiences of program participants. He has also worked as a translation project manager and often dabbles in translation and interpretation. He studied economics, international relations and math at the University of Pennsylvania, where his thesis focused on the multilingual media frameworks of Hezbollah and his independent study analyzed queer language in his home country of Lebanon. Michael is fluent in Arabic and French, knows some Spanish and is currently learning Farsi.
