Aryana Noroozi

Aryana Noroozi is a photojournalist covering environmental health effects for Black Voice News, which gives a voice to the community by using data and solutions-oriented reporting. Prior to joining Black Voice News, Noroozi was a Migration Fellow at The GroundTruth Project and a Crisis Reporting Fellow at the Pulitzer Center. Noroozi holds a master’s degree from the Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism, and she has been documenting addiction’s impact on a family in rural Illinois and plans to expand this to a long-form body of work around addiction and resilience.

Srishti Prabha

Srishti Prabha is an education reporter for The Observer, which serves the Black community in Sacramento, California, and for CapRadio, an NPR station in Sacramento. Before joining Report for America, Prabha was the managing editor of India Currents, a nonprofit magazine for the Bay Area community, covering the intersection of immigration, cultural identity, health and more in the South Asian community. Prabha’s first language is Hindi, and Prabha holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Northeastern University. Prabha came to journalism as a Public Allies Fellow working at East Palo Alto Today, addressing the effects of gentrification in East Palo Alto, California. Since then, Prabha has won awards from the San Francisco Press Club and the California News Publishers Association.

CapRadio is the NPR member station in California’s capital city. We serve audiences on our website, on radio programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered, on our Insight with Vicki Gonzalez talk show, and also via podcasts and live events. This role will primarily focus on serving our digital audiences at CapRadio.org. But there will also be the opportunity to acquire experience and skills in radio and audio journalism so as to serve our listeners. The Sacramento Observer is the weekly Black newspaper of California’s capital city and has been serving this African American community since 1962. Generally regarded as one of the premier Black newspapers in the country, The Observer has been named the nation’s best Black newspaper six times. The reporting from this beat will serve our print and online audience at SacObserver.com as well as with partner Black news sites such as WordInBlack.com.

The Mendocino Voice

The Mendocino Voice, founded in 2016, is an online, independent, worker owned, general interest news service with an emphasis on breaking news, government reporting, and community events. We publish multiple times daily on our website and across social platforms. Rural Mendocino County, in northern California, has become a news desert, and our goal is to go beyond merely restoring the old status quo, by providing coverage to communities that were left out even before the collapse of the news industry. We are transitioning to a worker-reader co-op with funding from Facebook Community Journalism Project/Lenfest Institute.

Black Voice News, a news site, focuses on advocacy, solutions-oriented and data-driven reporting. It has addressed issues like disparities in health and education, police violence, social justice and civil rights battles. BVN has chronicled some of the most important stories impacting the lives of Black Californians, and given voice to the community while expanding its scope of civic involvement.

Berkeleyside

Berkeleyside, a news site serving Berkeley, California, is part of the Cityside media organization, a nonprofit. Berkeleyside's strength is breaking news and digging deep on issues of accountability.
