Technical.ly

Technical.ly is a major part of narrating economic change for the communities we serve. We’re interested in second and third tier regional economies. We've reported on each of our communities for five or more years, the longest being Philadelphia for a decade. Our reporters are trained to be deeply ingrained in the communities we serve, while also holding perspective from around other local economies. We are read by serious technologists, experienced entrepreneurs and economic development leaders who allocate resources among constituencies.

The Berkshire Eagle

The Berkshire Eagle covers 32 cities and towns in Berkshire County, Mass., and four New York communities near Pittsfield. Published daily since 1892, The Eagle focuses primarily on local, regional and statewide news.

The St. Louis American/Type Investigations

The St. Louis American has covered the African American community since 1928. The Black-owned newspaper is now the largest weekly newspaper in Missouri. The American also is a 13-time recipient of the National Newspaper Publishers Association’s Russwurm Award, which recognizes the top African-American newspaper in the country. Type Investigations is the signature program of the Type Media Center, and provides expert editorial guidance, researchers, and funds for reporting costs to foster investigative reporting.

Statesman Journal

The Statesman Journal covers the middle section of the Willamette Valley between Oregon’s coastal mountain range and the Cascade Mountains. The Gannett-owned newsroom is based in Salem, the state capital, about an hour from Portland and the Oregon coast. Its primary mission is governmental accountability and watchdog reporting in and around Salem and state government.

The Boston Globe

The Boston Globe is a multi-Pulitzer-prize winning daily that is the oldest and biggest paper in Boston.

The Hastings Banner

The Hastings Banner, which has been in existence in south central Michigan since 1856, is a locally owned, quintessential family operation. The owner, with the help of his children, runs nine weeklies, specialty publications and commercial printing. His grandchildren help to maintain the property and produce Facebook videos. A small but seasoned news staff produce exclusive, comprehensive print and online coverage of Barry County, which has a population of about 62,000.

The Reader – El Perico

The Reader (parent company Pioneer Publishing) is the original alternative news monthly in Omaha, NE, founded in 1994. It is known for its watchdog journalism and covering news the mainstream media misses. The print paper has citywide distribution and a robust digital site. With an exceptionally diverse audience, its readers are most defined by their high levels of engagement in the community (from voting to going out). El Perico is the original bilingual community weekly founded in 1999, serving Omahaís booming Latino community, becoming part of Pioneer Publishing in 2004 and going monthly in 2020.

Baltimore Afro-American

The Baltimore Afro-American newspaper is one of the oldest Black-owned newspapers in the country. For more than 128 years, it has been the town crier that sounded the alarm when needed in the Black community and the last voice at night that declared “all is well.” Today, The AFRO-American reports on a variety of issues affecting African-Americans. It has two publications — one in Washington, D.C. and the other in Baltimore.

Asbury Park Press

The Asbury Park Press has a national reputation for strong investigative reporting, serving the community since 1879 and covering Monmouth and Ocean counties in NJ. Our 1.2 million population has about 20 percent communities of color, with some towns as high as 60%. The area is contrasted with extreme wealth and deep poverty. We have 57 writers, photogs, editors and producers.

Maine Public

Maine Public serves Maine and also reaches most of New Brunswick, Canada, and parts of New Hampshire and Massachusetts. Through its radio, television, educational and Web services, Maine Public provides ideas, information and lifelong learning to a diverse public. The majority of these services are available to everyone at no charge.
