New England Public Media

New England Public Media is an independently managed division of Boston-based WGBH Foundation. It was created in 2019 through an alliance between WGBY television in Springfield, Mass., and New England Public Radio, part of the Five College Consortium in western Massachusetts. NEPM is committed to serving the people of western New England by providing trustworthy journalism, cultural content, events and initiatives, educational services and community engagement. It serves more than 1 million households in western Massachusetts, northern Connecticut and southern Vermont.

KERA / The Texas Newsroom

NPR and Texas public radio stations collaborated to form the Texas News Hub. It’s the first step in a systemwide collaborative project to create a nationwide virtual public radio newsroom of 1,000-plus journalists. The collaboration includes two daily, hour-long statewide programs (Texas Standard and Think) and will soon include six daily statewide newscasts, and a statewide digital news desk. The Hub is working to hire and train freelance and small station reporters to provide news service to underserved communities in the state’s news deserts.

The news organization, the largest in North Dakota, serves community members in both North Dakota and northwestern Minnesota. A Pulitzer Prize-winning newspaper, The Forum is continually recognized with awards by professional news organizations for excellence in news, sports, feature reporting, design, advertising, opinion writing, editorial cartoons and photojournalism. The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead is part of the Forum News Service, which gathers and distributes content from news organizations throughout the region.

The Wichita Eagle

The Wichita Eagle was founded in 1872 and is the dominant news organization in south-central Kansas. The Eagle was at the forefront of the civic journalism movement and is known for the skills and experience it provides reporters looking to work at large news organizations.  

The Spectrum

The Spectrum is a digital and daily print newsroom based in southwestern Utah and is the lone remaining daily print publication between Las Vegas and Salt Lake City. We are a general news organization, with an emphasis on watchdog, government and environmental issues. We cover all of Washington County’s 17 municipalities and unincorporated areas, along with smaller communities and public lands spanning 25,000 square miles across parts of Utah, Arizona and Nevada.  

Texas Public Radio

Texas Public Radio operates seven public radio stations, serving a wide swath of South Central Texas. Our aggregated service area consists of 22 counties covering 20,000 square miles. Two of our stations (KSTX, 24/7 news and information, and KPAC, 24/7 classical music) serve the San Antonio area. The other five stations provide service to the Hill Country, the Highland Lakes, Snyder, Del Rio and Gonzales. These are our Tex-Net stations.

The Modesto Bee

About the News Organization: The Modesto Bee, a McClatchy news organization, serves primarily the city of Modesto, Stanislaus County, and its surrounding cities and counties in the heart of California’s Central Valley and the Sierra foothills. The Bee has a rich, 134-year history of serving a diverse community built on agriculture with an eye on diversifying employment sectors in hopes of fending off the “brain drain” that sees many of our youngest and brightest leave for college and never return. Our mission is to connect with readers each day to discover and report on the issues that touch their lives.

The Devil Strip

The Devil Strip is an independent community news organization that’s served the greater Akron, Ohio area for almost five years. This fall, we’ll become a community-owned local news cooperative to give residents a say in how our organization runs. This is how we’re aligning the incentives of our business and operational structure with the values of our mission and our journalism. In effect, instead of unionizing our newsroom, we’re unionizing our audience.

Detroit Free Press

The Detroit Free Press primarily covers three counties in southeast Michigan, including robust coverage of the city of Detroit. Founded in 1831, it’s the oldest business in Detroit. The Detroit Free Press has earned 10 Pulitzer Prizes in its history, including one for exposing lies and corruption in the administration of former Detroit Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick. Its role is to serve as watchdog and community convener.
