Southwest Times Record

The Times Record continues a long tradition of news coverage that began in December 1884 to document the life and times of its citizens in Fort Smith and provide the news to a growing city on the western frontier. The publication primarily covers Sebastian County and Fort Smith, with a historical circulation footprint of six counties in west central Arkansas and east central Oklahoma. The Times Record serves its readership as a source of local and national news, and as a forum for the community’s ideas.

TucsonSentinel.com

Founded in 2009, the nonprofit independent TucsonSentinel.com has a mission of informing Southern Arizonans about the community challenges and unique culture of our borderlands, and public policy responses to them: "A smarter Tucson is a better Tucson." The TucsonSentinel serves readers in metro Tucson (pop. 1M), the rural stretches of Pima County, and the other border counties of Santa Cruz and Cochise. Those in our coverage area are often poor and include many new/recently moved residents; 29% of adults speak Spanish or another language at home. Two Native tribes have reservations bordering Tucson: the Pascua Yaqui Tribe and the vast Tohono O’odham Nation. The Sentinel has published numerous investigations that have led to immediate changes in government policies and legislation.

WUFT News

WUFT News is a multiplatform, bilingual student-driven public media newsroom, housed in the Innovation News Center at the University of Florida College of Journalism and Communications, and based in Gainesville. In 2012, the TV, radio and digital news operations converged into one newsroom to cover north central Florida. The newsroom focuses on a 13-county area.

Mission Local

With more than ten years of experience, Mission Local is more than a neighborhood news site. We are a local news site that covers city-wide issues from the ground up. We are digital-first, led by a Latina and focused on producing trustworthy journalism. There are no shortcuts to the latter. We don’t aggregate. We make phone calls, read documents, pound the pavement, attend meetings. We talk to people on the street.

Mississippi Today

Mississippi Today is dedicated to providing Mississippians with reporting that inspires active interest in their state and equips them to engage in community life.

The Wichita Eagle

The Wichita Eagle was founded in 1872 and is the dominant news organization in south-central Kansas. The Eagle was at the forefront of the civic journalism movement and is known for the skills and experience it provides reporters looking to work at large news organizations.

DCist

DCist is a digital news outlet that covers D.C. rather than federal Washington. The site is the primary source of news for many Washingtonians on matters as diverse as local politics, transportation, the arts, and social justice issues. We take pride in covering the city, not the stereotypes. The site was created in the early aughts to fill in gaps left by traditional news outlets that were slow to adapt their coverage for the internet. DCist was shut down in late 2017 but revived a few months later by WAMU. Within WAMU, DCist operates as an independent editorial team. WAMU is one of the top NPR-affiliates in the country, a station with ambitious national initiatives and an abiding commitment to covering the D.C. region through audio and digital reporting, podcasting, and a daily local talk show.
