Valley News

The Valley News covers an area along the New Hampshire/Vermont border that includes more than 40 towns in four counties. The newspaper seeks to connect, engage, inform and give voice to residents of the Upper Valley with a focus on accountability for those in positions of authority, matters of public interest and enriching the lives of readers.

Baltimore Afro-American

The Baltimore Afro-American newspaper is one of the oldest Black-owned newspapers in the country. For more than 128 years, it has been the town crier that sounded the alarm when needed in the Black community and the last voice at night that declared “all is well.” Today, The AFRO-American reports on a variety of issues affecting African-Americans. It has two publications — one in Washington, D.C. and the other in Baltimore.

IndyStar

The IndyStar’s mission is to expose what's right and wrong, to shine a spotlight on the unique and special people and places that make Indy special and to look for solutions. With a newsroom staff of about 80, we are the largest news organization in the state and work with roughly 10 other sites as part of our Network including Bloomington, South Bend, Evansville, Henderson and Richmond and Lafayette. The IndyStar is the third largest news organization within USA Today Network not including USA Today.

Statesman Journal

The Statesman Journal covers the middle section of the Willamette Valley between Oregon’s coastal mountain range and the Cascade Mountains. The Gannett-owned newsroom is based in Salem, the state capital, about an hour from Portland and the Oregon coast. Its primary mission is governmental accountability and watchdog reporting in and around Salem and state government.

Wausau Pilot & Review

Wausau Pilot & Review is an independent, nonprofit digital site devoted to educating the public about crucial issues in central Wisconsin with a special focus on government accountability. The site launched in 2017 with a grant from a private foundation. Coverage focuses on Marathon County, which is home to about 150,000 people. Topics of particular interest include poverty, the justice system, education, health care, mental health, public spending, the elderly and the underprivileged.

AL.com

AL.com is the largest digital news site in Alabama, and one of the nation’s largest local news sites. It is part of the Alabama Media Group, which also operates social brand “It’s a Southern Thing,” “This is Alabama,” “People of Alabama” and the millennial-focused news brand “Reckon.” Alabama Media Group is part of Advance Local. Content for AL.com comes from three Advance Local newspapers: The Mobile Press Register, Birmingham News, Huntsville Times. The staff includes 75 reporters, editors, social producers and videographers.

KUCB

KUCB is a public radio and television station in Unalaska, Alaska. We are owned and operated by Unalaska Community Broadcasting, a non-profit formed in 1985 with the mission to inform, educate, entertain, and engage by providing news and arts and culture programming. Our signal serves a community of about 5,000 people. Our stories, however, have a much broader reach: We're surrounded by some of the most productive fishing grounds in the country, and we're in the middle of an international shipping corridor. Our station is located in the Aleutian Islands, the ancestral territories of the Unangax Peoples, who have lived in this region more than 9,000 years. Our newsroom is staffed with two local reporters, and they cover stories from all over our thousand-mile region.

For more than 65 years, our commitment to public interest journalism has made the Observer the go-to source for investigative reporting and thorough analysis of the issues shaping Texas. In Texas’ media landscape, we stand alone in our willingness and ability to challenge narratives crafted by the state’s power brokers that create barriers to equal access to prosperity, education, health and dignity. As the mediasphere continues to consolidate, leaving fewer and fewer independent outlets, we remain a strong, independent voice.

WBHM

Based in Birmingham since 1976, WBHM serves a city that is more than 70 percent Black and is home to a vibrant arts community and a nationally-recognized culinary scene. It’s grown more diverse. There are auto parts manufacturers and chicken processing plants. Farms dot Alabama’s rural landscape. The University of Alabama at Birmingham is a major research institution. Hispanics and Arabs make up a growing share of our area. Alabama has 14 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, the largest group in the nation. The radio station news staff includes one main editor, a part-time editor, one full-time reporter, two part-time host/reporters, and one digital news producer.

Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting

The Arizona Center for Investigative Reporting is an independent, nonpartisan and collaborative nonprofit newsroom dedicated to statewide, data-driven investigative reporting. AZCIR’s mission is to produce, foster and promote investigative journalism through original and collaborative reporting, often using data, and by training the next generation of investigative journalists.
