Jeniece Roman

Jeniece Roman covers Indigenous communities in Connecticut and Long Island for WSHU, an NPR member radio station based in Fairfield, Connecticut. Prior to joining WSHU, Roman reported for Connecticut’s New Britain Herald and the Record-Journal in Meriden; she has won several awards from the Connecticut Society of Professional Journalists. Roman earned a bachelor’s degree from Southern Connecticut State University, majoring in journalism with a concentration in political science, and she was the student chapter president of the Society of Professional Journalists and the editor-in-chief of The Southern News, the student-run paper. Roman enjoys reading books, photography and true crime podcasts.

Jose Davila

Jose Davila IV covers K-12 education with a focus on Latino students and families across northern Nevada and the Lake Tahoe region for KUNR, an NPR affiliate in Reno, Nevada. Prior to joining KUNR, Davila interned for The Blade in Toledo, Ohio, reporting on local businesses during the pandemic. He graduated from Yale University in 2022, where he majored in global affairs, obtained a Certificate of Advanced Language Study in Spanish, and was named a Yale Journalism Scholar. Davila was a beat reporter, a managing editor and a public editor for the Yale Daily News. He hails from Mill Valley, California, just north of San Francisco, where La Taqueria makes his favorite burrito.

Juanpablo Ramirez

Juanpablo Ramirez-Franco covers drinking water quality for WNIJ Radio in Illinois. This multimedia reporter focuses on the quality of the rivers and groundwater, and how climate-driven rain and flooding pose threats to life in the region north of the Illinois River.  An audio producer and journalist based out of Chicago, Ramirez-Franco has been a bilingual facilitator at the StoryCorps office in Chicago. As a civic reporting fellow at City Bureau, a non-profit news organization that focuses on Chicago’s South Side, he produced print and audio stories about the Pilsen neighborhood. Before that, he was a production intern at the Third Coast International Audio Festival and the rural America editorial intern at In These Times magazine. Ramirez-Franco grew up in northern Illinois, He is a graduate of Knox College.

Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting

The Kentucky Center for Investigative Reporting is a nonprofit, nonpartisan newsroom based in Louisville with coverage focused statewide. Our mission is to protect society’s most vulnerable citizens, expose wrongdoing in the public and private sectors, increase transparency in government and hold leaders accountable. KyCIR is the creation of the nonprofit Louisville Public Media, which announced KyCIR’s formation in spring 2013. We are a part of the WFPL newsroom, an NPR affiliate.

KOSU

KOSU is a member-supported public radio network, and its broadcast signals cover two-thirds of Oklahoma with a heavy rural focus. This news organization, including a news site, delivers award-winning local news and NPR news. KOSU provides a place for civil discourse through in-depth reporting on agriculture, rural issues, Indigenous affairs, education and health care and conversation.

WFAE / La Noticia

WFAE is the NPR station serving a 32-county listening area in the Charlotte region. For 32 years, people across the Carolinas have relied on WFAE to offer comprehensive and in-depth reporting on the topics they need to understand, whether of local, national, or international importance. La Noticia is a media company that produces the largest Spanish language newspaper in North Carolina. For over 22 years, we have been serving the growing Latino community in North Carolina with coverage of immigration, local and state government, politics, and community news and events. Our readers are immigrants from Latin America with a news source in their native language, providing them with the news and information they need to make informed decisions and help them adjust to the culture in the United States, in North Carolina, and in the cities they call home.  

CapRadio & Sacramento Observer

CapRadio is the NPR member station in California’s capital city. We serve audiences on our website, on radio programs like Morning Edition and All Things Considered, on our Insight with Vicki Gonzalez talk show, and also via podcasts and live events. This role will primarily focus on serving our digital audiences at CapRadio.org. But there will also be the opportunity to acquire experience and skills in radio and audio journalism so as to serve our listeners. The Sacramento Observer is the weekly Black newspaper of California’s capital city and has been serving this African American community since 1962. Generally regarded as one of the premier Black newspapers in the country, The Observer has been named the nation’s best Black newspaper six times. The reporting from this beat will serve our print and online audience at SacObserver.com as well as with partner Black news sites such as WordInBlack.com.
