The Kansas City Star

The Kansas City Star is the largest media organization covering the Kansas City region, which encompasses Kansas and Missouri. We cover both statehouses. The Star was founded in 1880 as "a paper for the people," a mission that continues today. We strive to tell stories that affect the lives of Kansas Citians and beyond.  

Honolulu Civil Beat

Honolulu Civil Beat is a digital news site focused on in-depth enterprise and investigative reporting that can have meaningful impact and drive positive change in Hawaii. Civil Beat was started with the aim of filling a void for serious civic affairs reporting in a shrinking media landscape. Civil Beat’s 18-person newsroom strives to cover important stories in Hawaii that no one else is telling. Major areas of coverage include police accountability and corruption, the environment and climate change, the city’s struggling rail project, public schools, state government, social issues and Native Hawaiian affairs.

The Fresno Bee

The Fresno Bee is the primary news source for the central San Joaquin Valley, covering a six-county area that is one of the fastest-growing regions in California. The Fresno Bee’s website is the most-visited website in the region, and its mission is to inform and advocate for the enhancement of life in the Valley.

Willamette Week

Willamette Week is the first alternative newsweekly in the country to be awarded the Pulitzer Prize for investigative reporting. Since our founding in 1974, this newsroom is focused on enterprise reporting that gives voice to the unheard, changes laws and removes the corrupt from power. In the past decade, our reporting has led to the resignation of a sitting Oregon governor, fundamental reforms in the state’s foster-care system, and an investigation of police communications with right-wing extremists. We produce a weekly print edition, a daily newsletter, and 35 online stories each week.  

The Wichita Eagle

The Wichita Eagle was founded in 1872 and is the dominant news organization in south-central Kansas. The Eagle was at the forefront of the civic journalism movement and is known for the skills and experience it provides reporters looking to work at large news organizations.  

Wausau Daily Herald

The Daily Herald has been Wausau’s primary source of local news and information since 1908. We focus on delivering core local coverage essential for a healthy community and democracy as well as providing journalism readers can’t get anywhere else. The Daily Herald is part of the USA Today Network, which has 11 newspapers in Wisconsin covering local news and working closely together on broader stories that are important to readers in every corner of Wisconsin. The Daily Herald covers the city of Wausau as well as the sprawling four county rural area around Marathon County. It is part of a larger news network in Wisconsin.  

VTDigger.org

VTDigger is a daily news organization dedicated to watchdog reporting on Vermont institutions, businesses and government. Its mission is to produce rigorous journalism that explains issues, holds government accountable and engages Vermonters in the democratic process. “Every day we work to expose the truth, cut through the noise of echo chamber spin and review the actions of public officials,” according to its mission statement.  

Voice of OC

For the past 10 years, Voice of OC has delivered consistently fair, focused and thorough civic and arts journalism to Orange County California’s 3.5 million residents. We are now widely recognized as the civic news of record. We encourage civic engagement and civil discourse through our editorial pages, community forums and social channels. We are vigilant advocates for first amendment rights and have won every lawsuit we have pursued. Voice of OC journalists are empowered and encouraged to dive daily into the mechanics of Orange County’s cities and government agencies engaging on stories that affect real people and hold powerful interests accountable. Our news is delivered daily on our website and via social media. Our reporters frequently appear on local public radio. We also have content agreements with the Los Angeles Times and the New York Times on election coverage.  

Ventura County Star

The Ventura County Star is a digital and print news organization that has been serving Ventura County in coastal Southern California for more than 90 years. We are the only daily newspaper located in Ventura County. We are a general news organization, with an emphasis on watchdog, government, health and environmental issues. Ventura County has a population of about 860,000. We cover all of the county’s 10 cities and the unincorporated areas.  

The State

On Feb. 18, 1891, the first issue of a new newspaper with a bold name rolled off the presses in South Carolina’s capital city. A new era of S.C. journalism was born that day as the first 3,000 copies of The State newspaper rolled off the two-revolution press. For much of the time since, The State has been the daily newspaper of South Carolina with bureaus across the state offering an unmatched level of statewide and local coverage for South Carolina’s communities.
