Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism

The Wisconsin Center for Investigative Journalism is an award-winning investigative news outlet based in Madison, Wisconsin. The mission of the WCIJ is to increase the quality, quantity and understanding of investigative journalism to foster an informed citizenry and strengthen democracy. The organization collaborates with Wisconsin Public Radio, Wisconsin Public Television, commercial media and the University of Wisconsin-Madison, training students in classroom settings. Collaborative partners have included ProPublica, the Chicago Sun-Times, the Center for Public Integrity, Reveal, USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, Madison Magazine, HuffPost and other outlets.

Chalkbeat

Chalkbeat is a nonprofit news organization covering one of America’s most important stories: the effort to improve schools for all children, especially those who have historically lacked access to a quality education. Chalkbeat is mission-driven, believing that every child deserves an excellent education and that a strong press is vital to making that happen. Through unbiased reporting, Chalkbeat helps the public examine how schools are operating, scrutinize key policy and legislative developments that often happen behind closed doors, and gain access to important data and context that would not otherwise be made transparent. The news organization practices local-first reporting, with the majority of reporters living in the communities they cover.

Centro de Periodismo Investigativo

Founded in 2007, the Centro de Periodismo Investigativo (CPI) is an independent, non-profit organization promoting news and information access in Puerto Rico through investigative journalism, litigation and journalism training. The CPI is the only entity of its kind in Puerto Rico and the Caribbean dedicated to investigative journalism. Our journalists have produced hundreds of stories on issues such as political corruption, the financing of electoral campaigns, public policy issues in areas such as health, the economy, the environment, education, agriculture and crime, as well as the ways in which private groups benefit from government mismanagement. Published in both Spanish and English, CPI’s work has received more than 30 awards from professional journalism associations in Puerto Rico and abroad.

The Buffalo Bulletin

The Buffalo Bulletin is a weekly print and online newspaper that has served Johnson County, Wyoming since 1884. The newspaper of record, we are family-owned and publish local news exclusively. Each week, The Bulletin publishes news that affects its community members, including coverage of local governing boards, school events, prep sports, economics, industry and politics as well as a weekly editorial and other commentary on their opinion page. The Buffalo Bulletin is the definitive source for news and information in Johnson County.

The Chico Enterprise-Record and The Ukiah Daily Journal

The Northern California Community Newspapers center around local journalism in the sometimes overlooked north of the state. It is a cohort of 17 small daily or weekly newspapers, including the The Chico Enterprise-Record and The Ukiah Daily Journal. The Enterprise-Record was founded in 1853 with the mission to serve and inform the local Butte community with local news, arts and sports updates. The Ukiah Daily Journal was founded in 1860 as the Dispatch Democrat, also with a mission to serve its community with county and city news.

The Fresno Bee

The Fresno Bee is the primary news source for the central San Joaquin Valley, covering a six-county area that is one of the fastest-growing regions in California. The Fresno Bee’s website is the most-visited website in the region, and its mission is to inform and advocate for the enhancement of life in the Valley.

The Modesto Bee

The Modesto Bee, a McClatchy news organization, serves primarily the city of Modesto, Stanislaus County, and its surrounding cities and counties in the heart of California’s Central Valley and the Sierra foothills. The Bee has a rich, 134-year history of serving a diverse community built on agriculture with an eye on diversifying employment sectors in hopes of fending off the “brain drain” that sees many of our youngest and brightest leave for college and never return. Our mission is to connect with readers each day to discover and report on the issues that touch their lives.

The Sun-Gazette

The Sun-Gazette is 117-year-old weekly newspaper covering municipal and county government, disadvantaged communities, local schools, and business trends in Tulare County in the middle of the San Joaquin Valley of California. The newspaper’s mission is to provide informational, unbiased coverage in a media devoid, geographically expansive and poverty-plagued area between the state’s metropolitan media hubs of San Francisco and Los Angeles.  

Theresa Davis

Theresa worked as the editor of the Kemmerer Gazette in rural Wyoming for two years. Her work on the Bears Ears National Monument controversy in southern Utah earned awards from the National Newspaper Association, the Associated Press of Utah-Idaho-Spokane, the Utah Press Association and the Utah Society of Professional Journalists. Her coverage of the coal mining industry in southwest Wyoming earned awards from the Wyoming Press Association. As a student at Brigham Young University, she was the deputy editor at The Universe, the student-run publication. She grew up in the Texas Hill Country.

Rachel Cohen

Rachel worked as an editorial intern at New Hampshire Public Radio, where she produced local stories for broadcast on All Things Considered, and on NPR’s Science Desk, where she reported on food and health. In the last year, she also conducted pre-production research on immigration for the award-winning documentary team, Living on One. She also worked as a volunteer at the Open Door Clinic, which provided migrant farm workers and others with free healthcare. Rachel began her journalism career at the Addison County Independent in Vermont. She’s a graduate of Middlebury College.
