David Fuchs

David is a radio reporter and producer whose work has aired on “Morning Edition,” “All Things Considered” and PRI’s “The World.” He started his career with local newspapers and radio stations in California and Vermont and has spent the last two years as a freelance producer in New York City, working with organizations like Radiolab, NPR and CBS News. His work has covered everything from women’s surf contests in Morocco to anti-poaching efforts in South Africa to coastal zoning policy in California. David is a graduate of Middlebury College. Energy and environment David focuses on southern Utah, with an eye towards political coverage at the state and federal level, growth, public lands, energy, water and the environment. He covers the growth of the region, specifically St. George, which according to March 2018 estimates from the Census Bureau is the fastest growing metropolitan area in the United States. David works in dual capacities as a half-time general assignment reporter helping to cover the region, while the other half of the time he tackles issues such as natural resources, water and growth. He works remotely, away from the main newsroom in Salt Lake City.

Becky Jacobs

Becky worked as a crime and courts reporter in Northwest Indiana for the Post-Tribune, a suburban newspaper of the Chicago Tribune. She previously covered courts, crime and general assignment at the Grand Forks Herald, where she was named the North Dakota Newspaper Association rookie reporter of the year in 2016. She also was a Dow Jones News Fund copy editing intern at the Pioneer Press in St. Paul, Minnesota, and interned with The Local, an English news outlet in Stockholm, Sweden. She got her B.S. from the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign. Covering the status of women in Utah Becky covers the status of women in Utah. Utah is routinely labeled as the worst state for women because it has the nation’s widest wage gap, a low college graduation rate for women and fewer women leaders in politics and business. (That number dropped from 11.4 to 6.4 percent since 2014.) From childcare access to cultural pressures — primarily associated with Mormon culture — there is some important targeted research happening in this area. Becky translates the data and ties it to personal narratives to give more context and attention to women’s issues.

KUER: NPR Utah

KUER is Utah’s largest NPR affiliate, reaching 165,000 listeners each week from St. George to Pocatello, Idaho. KUER/NPR Utah, licensed through the University of Utah, employs 28 full-time staff including a news director, politics/government editor, a web producer, five reporters, a news/production assistant and two hosts. The mission of KUER News is to provide reporting in the public interest with a developing bent toward investigative, watchdog journalism. KUER produces newscasts during Morning Edition and All Things Considered with midday newscast at noon.
